Writing a music piece

In partners we were asked to write a song as a task and either perform or bring a recording in of it the week after. Me and my partner Karen both had different techniques to how we'd approach this task for example I prefer to work solo where as she liked working in with others to bounce ideas off them. We were given some words to assist us with it and was given the option to either use them or not which we did. We created a story based around the words we picked out; it started out with the person knowing where they wanted to be, not being able to get there with the person they wanted to get there with but in the end reacting where they wanted to be (The Promise Land.) We tried to put the lyrics to music but we found it was really different so when it came to present our work we spoke our lyrics instead and was given constructive feedback such as:

  • Gorgeous lyrics
  • Maybe try a tune or instruments to piece in your lyrics
  • Pop some chord in and add a rhythm
The Promise Land
I've climbed the tallest mountains I've swam the farthest seas Just to find the promised land To have you next to me   I don't know when I'll get there and I don't know how I just know that when I do You'll be there helping me through   I know I must travel this journey alone But when I reach the promised land After my time here has ended You'll be at those gates guiding me by the hand   I spend so long on this earth waiting for this day The day I get to meet you again Soon I hope and pray   Now I have reached my last day My journey's finally through I can see the promised land and with it you I questioned why you were taken from me every single day but now I know they needed you here to give a hand and say 'you have finally reached the promised land, your journeys almost through, take my hand and let me help guide you to something new.'
